The project faces une of the most important challanges of the contemporary italian city: preservino centralità and competitività of the old town as an alternative to extra-urban shopping malls. In Chiari the project, winner of the second prize, starts from the renovation, with a new program of cultural-commercial functions, of three public buidings located in Piazza Zanardelli to refurbish the public space with the highest flexibility, combining formal quality and hi functionality of weekly market activities. The square is re-drawn by a stone texture referring to cultivated fields characterizing the surrounding landscape, and becoming a sort of carpet giving continuità to the old town streets. Several high elements, create shaded resting zones, space for commercial activities and areas for the weekly market.
